FOREIGN RELATIONS WITH
GERMANY

Nepal and Germany established diplomatic relations in 1958, with Germany becoming one of Nepal’s important development partners.
German technical and financial assistance has focused on renewable energy, health, sustainable economic development, and vocational training. The relationship was strengthened after Nepal’s devastating 2015 earthquake, with Germany providing significant humanitarian aid. Currently, Germany remains one of Nepal’s largest European donors and trading partners. Cultural ties are robust, with many Nepali students pursuing higher education in Germany. Tourism from Germany consistently ranks high among European visitors to Nepal. Both countries maintain embassies in their respective capitals and collaborate on climate change initiatives. Germany supports Nepal’s democratic institutions through various capacity-building programs.
